WAIMM Celebrates Women Industry Professionals – 2022

The West African Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum – WAIMM, believes that an equal and diverse workforce in the resources industry will provide the broader sustainability approach to the mining and oil and gas industry. The WAIMM has created the environment for the hard work and toils of our women professionals to be acknowledged through the Women in Mining and Petroleum (WiMPet) empowerment conference which is a day reserved for only women professionals presentations as part of the WAIMM Annual Industry Conference (WAIC) since 2018.  WiMPet empowerment conference seeks to provide a channel where women professionals in the industry can access mentorship, build leadership and managerial roles as well as resilience in the male dominated industry.

The WAIMM is proud to support “CREATING A MORE DIVERSE AND INCLUSIVE WORKFORCE – A Catalyst to Sustainable Development” which is in line with the global theme for this year’s International Women’s dayGender Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow” #BreakTheBias.

WAIMM has dedicated the month of March 2022 to celebrate our women industry professionals as our appreciation to strong, committed, professionalism, courageous and resilient women across the sub region and globally. The recognition is to raise awareness of the gender inequality, diversity and inclusion needed in the industry and also celebrate some of the women industry professionals making a change in the sector.

As our way to celebrate, we will be profiling female professionals from industry leaders through to students in earth science and resources engineering.

As we celebrate women month, we encourage our hardworking wonderful women industry professionals to stand out and be counted and create the much needed change as a wider part of industry sustainability.

The monthly celebration will end with a two day panel discussions on zoom from 7 – 8th April 2022 as part of the “WiMPet dialogue series” which will involve women industry professionals from students to managers on the barriers and biases in the industry that has caused artificial limitations to women participation and share their real life experiences on their resilience to achieve their set goals in the industry.
