The WAIMM is governed by a Council of 29 members, including the President and three Vice Presidents with fair representation for industry, academia and research. The Council meets at least 3 – 5 times each year and is chaired by the President.

Most of the Council activities are conducted by the Council committees which are chaired by members of the governing council.

Governing council members provide leadership guidance as part of a broader mandate towards positioning of WAIMM as a professional body of excellence across West Africa and beyond.

The Council is tasked with the following responsibilities among others:

  • Building and providing members with professional development and networking opportunities
  • Providing members with a strong code of ethics, regulation and professional practice
  • Position WAIMM as the foremost gathering of professionals to look up to as regards research and industry advancement
  • Strengthen the WAIMM Membership base and Fellow categories in alignment with other International bodies for mutual recognition.

All members once elected to the Governing council are automatically bound by the WAIMM Confidentiality and Declaration of Interests policy.
