Meet Esther Donkor, Senior Strategic Mine Planning Analyst, Kinross Gold – Chirano mine, Ghana

The WAIMM has dedicated the months of March and April 2022 to celebrate and highlight our women industry professionals as our appreciation to strong, committed, professionalism, courageous and resilient women across the sub-region and globally. The recognition is to raise awareness of gender inequality, diversity, and inclusion needed in the industry and also celebrate the successes of some of our women industry professionals who are making a change in the sector.

WAIMM is honored to celebrate and join in the success of Esther Donkor, a geomatic and mine planning engineer providing mine planning and business analyst services to the mining industry in Ghana for the past 13years.

Esther completed a BSc in Geomatic Engineering program at the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa – Ghana in 2008. She later pursued a post graduate program at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi – Ghana and graduated in 2013 with an Executive MBA majoring in operations, project, and strategic management. Currently, she is pursuing an MSc in Mining engineering at the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa – Ghana.

She is currently a senior strategic mine planning analyst at Kinross Gold’s Chirano mine in Ghana. Her role includes financial modelling, continuous improvements, economic evaluation of strategic projects, economic evaluation of mine closure scenarios and their impacts, strategic planning (verifying key inputs/assumptions of long-range plans) and project management.

Esther started her career as a surveyor at the Chirano mine and gained extensive experience ranging from exploration survey activities, underground and open pit surveys.

With a career spanning over a decade of experience in the mining industry, Esther has developed the resilience to provide leadership, ensuring that functions meet international best practices and industry regulatory standards. She is a team player, collaborating and building strong working relationships with others and with people at various levels.

She is a a member of the West African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (MWAIMM).
