Justice Fenteng, MBA, BSc, PGDip – Fellow, WAIMM; Fellow, AusIMM
The West African Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (WAIMM) proudly recognizes Justice Fenteng as a distinguished Fellow and a highly experienced mining engineer with a profound impact on the industry across Africa and Australia. With over 25 years of dedicated service, Mr. Fenteng has demonstrated exceptional leadership and technical acumen in various capacities, from technical services to senior mine management.
Justice Fenteng was recently appointment by the Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd as the General manager (1st April 2026) as part of the company’s strategic realignment, reflecting a renewed focus on strong leadership, operational discipline, and sustainable growth.
His professional journey is marked by significant contributions to major mining entities. Notably, at Newmont Ghana Gold Ltd., Mr. Fenteng served as Technical Services Manager at the Ahafo North mine, where his strategic input was crucial in establishing it as the most cost-efficient operation within the Newmont portfolio. Prior to this, he held the position of Mine Manager at Newmont Gold Ridge Ltd., Ghana. His international experience further extends to senior leadership roles in Australia, including tenures at Rio Tinto Iron Ore, Karara Mining Ltd., and AngloGold Ashanti between 2007 and 2013.
Justice Fenteng is renowned for his expertise in strategic planning, comprehensive mine plan development, Life-of-Mine (LOM) scheduling, pit optimization, infrastructural designs, and robust project execution. He is also a strong advocate for developing diverse and inclusive teams, fostering a collaborative environment for engineering and operational mining professionals.
Mr. Fenteng’s academic background includes a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Wolverhampton, a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mining Engineering, both from the esteemed University of Mines and Technology. This unique blend of business insight and technical expertise has enabled him to consistently drive operational excellence, ensure stringent compliance with environmental and mining regulations, and uphold the highest standards of health and safety.
In addition to his Fellowship with WAIMM, Mr. Fenteng is a Certified Mine Manager by the Minerals Commission of Ghana, a respected member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering, and a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM).
