The West African Institute of Mining, Metallurgy & Petroleum (WAIMM) officially inaugurated its University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Dormaa Campus Students Chapter (UENR-Dormaa WSC) on June 17, 2026. This event signifies a pivotal advancement in fostering collaboration between academia and the vital resources sector, aiming to cultivate future leaders and enhance the professional readiness of early career professionals in the mining and oil & gas industries.
The inauguration ceremony featured a keynote address by Mr. Lawrence Omari-Mensah, CEO of WAIMM, who underscored the critical importance of equipping emerging professionals with the necessary skills for sustainable success within the industry. Mr. Omari-Mensah articulated WAIMM’s steadfast commitment to developing and empowering leaders through platforms that facilitate knowledge exchange, mentorship, and collaborative learning. The UENR-Dormaa WSC, now the 13th WAIMM student chapter, is designed to provide invaluable opportunities for career and professional development, networking, and skill enhancement for young geoscientists and professionals across the West African sub-region and globally.
This initiative represents a transformative step towards bolstering the competency and preparedness of the next generation of industry leaders. WAIMM extends an invitation to all stakeholders—students, faculty, and industry professionals—to actively engage with the UENR-Dormaa WSC and other WAIMM student chapters. Such participation is crucial for personal and professional growth, and for contributing meaningfully to the collective advancement and sustainability of the mining and oil & gas sectors.
WAIMM expresses profound gratitude to Mr. Lawrence Omari-Mensah for his visionary leadership, the University Administration for their support, Geominerals Consulting and Investment for their sponsorship, and all attendees who contributed to the success of this landmark event.
